Based on 2024 Taiwan minimum wage: NT$27,470/month, NT$183/hour
The standard formula is: monthly salary ÷ work days per month ÷ hours per day. For someone earning NT$50,000 per month, working 22 days at 8 hours each, that's 50,000 ÷ 22 ÷ 8 = NT$284/hour. Knowing your true hourly rate helps you evaluate whether overtime is worth it, or compare offers across different pay structures.
Under the Labor Standards Act, overtime pay works in tiers: the first 2 hours earn an extra 1/3 (effectively 1.34× your hourly rate), and hours 3-4 earn an extra 2/3 (1.67× rate). Rest day overtime is calculated differently — 1.34× for the first 2 hours, then 1.67× for hours 3-8. National holidays pay double.
As of 2024, Taiwan's minimum wage is NT$27,470/month for salaried workers and NT$183/hour for hourly workers. If your calculated hourly rate falls below the minimum, the employer may be in violation. Note that minimum wage covers regular working hours only — it doesn't include overtime pay, attendance bonuses, or other allowances.
