Amounts in NT$ (ten-thousands for stage totals)
It's one of the biggest financial questions new parents face. The answer depends on where you live, what schools you choose, and your family support system. Based on government statistics and surveys, raising a child from birth to college graduation in Taiwan typically costs between NT$8-12 million for an average family. Private schools, extracurriculars, and tutoring can push that number much higher.
Ages 0-2 are dominated by childcare costs — whether it's a nanny or daycare center, expect NT$15,000-25,000 per month. Ages 3-5 shift to kindergarten tuition, with public options around NT$3,000-5,000 and private ones at NT$15,000-25,000. Elementary school is relatively cheap tuition-wise, but after-school programs and activities add up. In middle and high school, cram school fees become the main expense. University brings tuition plus rent and living costs if your child moves out.
Sending your child to the US or UK for university can cost NT$5-8 million for four years — several times more than studying domestically. That's why the "Study Abroad" toggle has such a dramatic impact on the total. Starting a dedicated savings plan early can make it much more manageable.
