Different placements need different dimensions. The 300x250 Medium Rectangle is the most widely supported format across the Google Display Network, but if you only produce one size, you're leaving impressions on the table. Knowing which sizes matter lets you cover more placements with the same creative effort.
Google Display ads are mostly horizontal banners and rectangles (728x90, 300x250) designed to fit inside articles and sidebars. Social platforms lean toward squares and vertical formats (1080x1080, 1080x1920) because people scroll on their phones. Always check what each platform supports before uploading — a cropped or stretched ad hurts more than it helps.
If you're short on time, start with these five: 300x250, 728x90, 320x50, 1080x1080, and 1080x1920. Together they cover roughly 80% of available inventory across Google and social platforms. Add more sizes when you have the bandwidth.
